Summer Session in Fudan University- Why Do My Classmates Have Good English Level
In 2018, I attended a summer school program in Fudan University. During the program, I found out how poor English I am. Hence, I decided to keep learning, speak more, and read more.
There were hundreds of students participating this summer session, including foreigners, Chinese students (international students and local students) and some students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. I was surprised that there were so many Chinese students studying abroad. However, this is not my point in this story; I would share it more detail in the future.
In one of my course, Chinese society, had to give a presentation in the last week in English. Though, this was my first time to give a English presentation. In order to have a smooth speech, I had to type in verbatim script first, then tried to memorize it. Nonetheless, my groupmates from Hong Kong were confused by what I was doing. For them, all they had to do was to see the slides on the screen ,then they could give a presentation fluently. Just see the slides and say it out is what I cannot do; this proved my English is not good enough at all.
The time in Fudan University let me know my shortage. Once I thought my English is not bad, but actually, I still have a lot effort to do. Speak more and read more!
